Artists and storytellers have always known that creativity is good for the soul. Now, more and more research is showing that it's also good for our overall health. Artists in the field of neuro-esthetics have gathered evidence that great art and stories not only help us expand our minds, but literally change our brains as well. This evidence calls for a culture shift, for our society to stop viewing art as a luxury and recognize it as something human beings required to thrive.
In their new book Your Brain on Art, VP of Hardware Design at Google Ivy Ross and Founder and Director of the International Arts + Mind Lab at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Susan Magsamen show that great art and stories are not just enjoyable, but necessary for us to flourish as humans. On this episode of the FoST Podcast, they discuss the neuroscience supporting their hypothesis and the culture shift needed to help us live fuller, more artistic lives.
