Catherine the Great's Lover
Catherine had to deal with more than a dozen serf uprisings during her reign. The bloodiest and most bizarre came in 1774, led by a former army officer called Emmelian Pugachev. He convinced peasants that he was the deposed Emperor Peter - who died 12 years before. This uprising became the largest peasant revolt in European history. 5,000 government officials and noblemen were killed when it was crushed. Catherine also amassed an impressive amount of military victories throughout her reign. In terms of just how many lovers she had, historians believe the number is somewhere between 12 and 22.
