The Orange Order and the Toronto Police Department

The police and fire services drew heavily from the orange order in Toronto in the 1800s. A government report in 1841 said that the influence of the orange order on the Toronto Police Department was quote a great and growing evil which should be discounted denounced and repressed. The Great Hunger Irish famine in full swing the diaspora has begun and since Irish people are being starved out of their homeland they fled to North America.
