The author drank 250 millionths of a gram of homeopathic substance lsd 25. It's exactly a thousand times less than the smallest amount of any other psychoactive substance that he knew of, one thousand and he expected it to do exactly nothing. He experienced dizziness, anxiety, visual distortions, symptoms of paralysis, desire to laugh. And then five years later, he tries it again. Its kind of a universal anecdote; you don't know what you might be poisoned by. The next door was no longer a missus but a rather insidious malevolent witch with an evil smile.
