authenticity is something that is often ascribed to other places, people and experiences drawn from some combination of personal beliefs and expectations. I am approaching authenticity as a social construction, rather than a real or objective thing. In academic settings and in everyday life, the tourist has been negatively characterized as self indulgent, as crude, as inconsiderate,. Also as some one who is satisfied with a highly commodified, generic or contrived tourism product. And you were interested, i know, in alternative tourism practices, n in particular, short term international volunteering. How how are we going to characterize that type of travel?
