The Battle of Zalfald
No one at French headquarters was aware the battle had occurred by mistake, that the Prince and his men had never been intended to make a stand at Zalfald. It gave them a misleading impression of the location of the Prussian armies. Napoleon dashed off new orders, sending the bulk of the Grand Armée after them. The French would concentrate at a smaller city just east of Weimar, a university town called Jena.
