The Mayor-Elect's Statement on the Urban Decline Loop
Police in Chicago arrested 15 people over the weekend amid what they call reckless and disruptive behavior from large groups of teenagers. The mayor-elect said he does not condone the destructive activity, but that it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities. Evan Davis: I thought it was absolutely wrong to go out and say that we should not be demonizing these kids. He says there are a lot of things to give teenagers to do that are not like, you know, teenagers want to get together.
