Venuszano Carranza

Venuszano Carranza of Quauela was born in 1859. He and Jose Maria Materrana were the only two state governors who refused to recognize Huerta's legitimacy. His family had been die hard supporters of Benito Juarez, but his doctrinaire liberalism came with a very conservative bent. In 1893 he joined a small revolt against the unpopular governor of Coela.
