The Evolution of Cultural Evolution

The study of cultural evolution didn't begin until the 1950s. It was eclipsed by Mendelian genetics and as if only way that offspring can resemble their parents is by sharing the same gene. And so one of the things that happened in the 70s was a view of cultural evolution that tried to center itself on the concept of memes. That's not what we see today stems from the tradition of Peterson, Robert Boyd, and others.
