What Is the Blind Spot of a Narrator?
If you're looking at an unreliable narrator, the perspective one needs to adopt is not like, oh, well, this narrator is unreliable, so I can't trust anything they say. What you need to look for is you need to find what this narrator's blind spot is. The example I always give is Great Gatsby. Nick Caraway is inclined to seeing Jake Gatsby as great as the person who really suffered and did something like truly significant in the era in which he lived. That bias tells you more once you can identify it. Like think about Lolita if it wasn't narrated by Humbert Humbert. It would be totally uninteresting, right? And
