The History of Weather Modification
General Electric made a scientific breakthrough that opened the door for Crick's third career. In November 1946, one of GE's chemists discovered how to increase precipitation in clouds by adding silver iodide. The discovery was made by Bernard Vonnegut, who would write about a chemical that froze all water it touched and Cats Cradle. Irving Langmuir became obsessed with cloud seating and the idea of weather modification.
