Forensic experts concluded that blows to the neck would have only caused a brief loss of consciousness, a few minutes at most. As the defense pointed out, the crucial point in the case was whether or not Rudolph Rube returned home on the night in question and this couldn't be proven. Therefore, an accident or suicide could not be ruled out.
