Islamic Modernism in the Ottoman Empire
There is a sense that what the West is doing isn't entirely of the West's own creation, writes Orhan Pamuk. There are almost uncanny similarities between the late Qing Empire and China and the late Ottoman Empire. "If we take it back and make it for a good purpose, for a good Ottoman and Muslim purpose, then maybe we can use these modern ideas and technologies to do something good in the world," he says.
