The Evolution of Exoplanet Discovery
Zana Stalkin has spoken just on Passover, half way across the galaxy. So where are we there? I mean what are we getting from that far away? Well, as you say, different techniques have different strengths and have a bias to finding different kind of planets. In the early stages, we're finding these objects like 51 Pegs which are large, massive and orbiting very close to their star. Those have been the easiest ones to find. It's only now that we're beginning to get to finding other systems,. but our samples are still completely biased to finding compact planetary systems dominated by massive planets.
