Introduction
British Home Secretary Sirwala Brahmyn flew to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. She was there to sell the smallest African nation as a solution to a problem. Migrant detention centres were in disarray, full and facing outbreaks of disease. Politicians were angry about asylum seekers being housed in expensive hotels. And Rwanda, we were being told, was the solution. There's been much reporting in the British press about how and why Rwanda. But this week our Slow Newscast investigates the cost of such a deal for Rwandans.
