The Mud Revolution Changed the World
Before the evolution of plants earth's rivers probably would have looked more like the comparison that pop it uses is the rivers found around the gravelly coast of alaska today. The introduction of plants seems to have changed this by holding mud in place and the mud being sticky would solidify the form of riverbanks. This led to stable single channel rivers with fixed banks and boundaries rather than these little shrubs of different rivulets changing all the time.
