We'd Aged a Lifetime Since the Sun Come Up
The Civil War constituted a seemingly endless stream of battles characterized by three distinct dynamisms. The sun set that day on the men at Shiloh, but the horrors were repeated the next day. Each battle is as complex as the war itself in its own way, offering up an infinitude of human loss and experience. So the third quote, he says, we'd aged a lifetime since the sun come up.
