I think it comes back to the periods of time when equities are doing well and trend falling tends to underperform during those periods. What you're really asking is, is there a point in time where the system's broken or technology is so good that the trend follower from a speculation standpoint can't make money in those markets anymore? I think it just keeps coming back to the same thing that it doesn't matter how much governments try to control, stabilize and influence the markets.
