Feynman used Challenger as an example of what could go wrong. He took a piece of that O-ring, he put a winch on it and then dropped it in ice water. Fuel began leaking through that gap in the O-ring and it caused the solid rocket booster to explode. There are other factors that would play into how your product performs on specific days.
