I think that there's a way to get an idea of whether or not people are playing memetic games. I would put healthy models place, like the kind of people that are not driven by petty rivalries. That quality in a person has shot up to become one of the most important things that i look for. If you're a charlatan, all you actually need to do is get ten or 11 of the right people to consider you an expert,. and you're sort of crowned an expert.
In this episode of Infinite Loops we spoke with Luke Burgis, author of the book 'Wanting: The Power of Mimetic Desire in Everyday Life'. We talk about:
- Needs vs. Desire
- The current state of social media
- 'Celebristan' and 'Freshmanistan'
- How to identify fake "experts"
- Scapegoating and Mimetic Violence
- And a LOT more!
