The Anglo-American Colonization of California

The book is about the Anglo-American dispossession of indigenous people of California. The massacres that are going on to clear the land of Alta, California and make it safe for US colonization are going on during the Civil War. And so if you watch something like Zorro, Zorro has been rewritten as a story to happen during the Spanish period. But the story that it's based on is during the California period, right?
