The letter b has been in the l g, b, t, c, plus acranum the whole time. There was a fight over whether bisexuals counted as 'queer' because they slept with men. People who date opposite sex are treated by straight people and it's difficult for them to navigate queer spaces. If you don't know how somebody identifies, why should you assume that they're straight? You can add that plurality into people's options for identities.
