Francis Bacon: The First Artist I Loved

I saw an exhibition of Russian constructivist art at the Royal Academy when I was about 13. And I really loved Malayvitch, because I just couldn't believe that something could be so avant-garde and so beautiful at the same time. It really affected me in a way I wasn't even clear what was happening. Did you have a kind of structure for understanding? Had you been taken to museums and seen examples of modern art before that? Was there a sort of framework for trying to fathom it? A little bit.
