The Nutcracker and the Mouse King

The nutcracker and the mouse king is sometimes described as the first phantasy, written specifically for children. The story contains 14 short chapters, some of which just stop rather than reaching any sort of logical pause in the narrative. There is some speculation that it was broken up this way so that it could be read one chapter per night,. starting on christmas eve, as the story does, and ending with epiphany on january sixth.
