How to Identify Intracranial Lesions in Children With Minor Head Injury
How often does routine head imaging identify important intracranial lesions after a minor head injury? Most kids who present with those initial symptoms do not have significant findings on a CT or other type of advanced neuroimaging. When you look at a clinically important outcome, and the way the PCARN study had done that was they defined this as needing neurosurgery, leading prolonged intubation, inpatient hospitalizations beyond two days,. The overall incidence of those is only about one percent.
