Politics Is No Job for Saints
Weber thought that if you go into politics with that attitude, you become profoundly irresponsible. He also said explicitly that politics is no job for saints. Modern states depend on functionaries and bureaucrats. Weber understood that as well as any one. But he didn't think that bureaucrats could be political leaders Any peace achieved by violence will always have the stain of violence on it. It's the price you pay to live a world, a life, a profession, a vocation knowing that the means will contaminate the ends.
