Rousseau's influence affects Kant's politics and his morals in a very subtle way. Rousseau is also concerned with synthesizing our need for freedom with the need for cooperation to place the individual's freedom into a relationship with the collective such that one doesn't undermine the other. When enacted every individual will be able to best realize their individual will through the general will right? We secure our political freedom our individual rights by submitting to a sovereign authority no pun intended. If a conflict of interest arises in which our individual will is at variance with the laws of the just state we must voluntarily subordinate ourselves to that law.
