The Dangers of Fearful Leaders
There's an element throughout conservative Christianity where the world is bad and it's scary. They were tending to want this leader that doesn't look anything like Jesus. We would just buy into a leader that we feel will do our dirty work, so to speak. It's not surprising to say that certain religious groups are allied with political movements.
