The Rules of Competitive Debate
I was a pretty decent debater, so I made it to the out rounds. The topic for this particular quarter final round was something along the lines of we ought to create new memorials or new ways of memorializing the Holocaust. My partner and I decided that we would kind of bend the rules of collegiate debate a little bit by doing a performance piece of silence. We didn't say a single word for the whole debate round. And when it was our opponent's turn to speak, they gave arguments both to reject our approach and to argue against new ways ofmemorializingtheHolocaust.
