The Rise of Digital Persecutors in China
During the pandemic China for its own purposes decided to massively ramp up its surveillance on its entire population. They had been developing very particular techniques for the Rohingya Muslims and we go Muslims in this case actually a different persecuted Muslim my life you acquire the Uyghurs. When the pandemic came effectively what they then did is rolled out very similar techniques across the entire population using facial recognition but also the smartphone as a source of monitoring. And so, yeah, I think there's no doubt that we're now in a new era where we have to accept that the levels of surveillance that are possible are extraordinary.
