There's noise because of different people making judgments. And then there's noise within a single judge. So for example, judges tend to be most severe on hot days than on other days. People have judgment personalities and they look at exactly the same thing but are surprisingly different from each other. We can learn from pattern noise from the existence of pattern noise.
