When you're recruiting an exec, it's important to be careful in reference checking. You have to go into those conversations with sort of eyes wide open. I think what a person may have been in the wrong environment or was in a role that wasn't best suited for their talents. But i always, i try not to put too much weight in them as well. It's a good check and balance to have, but i tend to give the candidate the benefit of the doubt as well.
