Bathsheba Spooner invited a 16-year-old soldier into her home after he was injured during the Revolutionary War. The husband of Bathsheba, Joshua Spooner, knew him just from being around because he lived in Massachusetts. This was so common inviting perfect strangers into your home, giving them all the food that you had. It was just part of being part of a community, particularly during a war.
