The Germ Theory of Disease

The current view, which attributes many diseases to germs like viruses or bacteria, wasn't yet in vogue. They said it was caused by miasmatic vapors. Miasmos is the greek word for defilement or corruption. Any air that smelled bad was thought to contain miasma and thus able to spread disease. And the miasma itself was thought to come from rotting matter. But i mistakenly focused primarily on air as the mode of transmission. It also ignored the fact that sick people become germ factories and so disease spreads from person to person.
