Detecting Phosphine in the Atmosphere

At first there was a huge pushback and a growing disdain right off the bat. People would immediately write to us or post on social media that it can't be right. Some teams did recover the signal in some of our data, but they wanted to attribute the signal not to phosphine, but to another molecule called sulfur dioxide. It's almost a full-time job for her and her data analysis team to respond to every one of these criticisms in a formal way in a published journal.
