The group successfully injected hot-button cultural issues like patriotic education, moral library books and prayer in schools into local debates. By waging it as a war of education, they were able to make, I think, inroads and put issues onto the agenda that may not have otherwise been on the agenda. Long before moms for liberty or mama bears or parents defending education, women were on the front lines of the birch society's crusade against the communist conspiracy.
