Is There a Difference Between Group Means and Standard Deviation Bars?

The difference between groups comes down to standard errors more than deviations. You could have massively overlapping standard deviation bars, or even situations where like the standard deviation bar in one group overlaps the mean of the other group. And if you have an adequate sample size, you can still confidently state that those two means are different.
