The Role of Sacrifice and Offering in the Hebrew Bible
In pagan myth, the violence to the victim is either justified as in the case of Oedipus or whitewashed if not forgotten. Gerard has this to say, throughout the Old Testament, a work of exegesis is in progress. The rejection of sacrifice only remains but a muffled intuition in the Hebrew Bible and won't develop into a fully articulate and resounding message until the arrival of Jesus.
