After ten years of solitude in the mountains, Sarathustra descends back into the world of men to share his wisdom with others. He gives a speech under Uppement, which he calls the meaning of the earth and is greeted with scornful laughter. A crowd mockingly tell him to make them learn into the Uppements, but into the last man. The urge to do so drives him on, and eventually his consuming thirst is quenched. "Oh my brothers, I heard a laughter that was no human laughter, and now a thirst consumes me"
