The Myth of Meaning
We're not built like that. When we interpret a sentence, we interpret it as something written by somebody with a specific purpose in mind. We're just naturally built to try and recover meaning. So this idea of somehow approaching the text in this utterly decontextualized, depersonalized way is a myth. It's one of the deep myths about the notion of meaning.
