Birkbeck - Women's College

Women were admitted to Birkbeck in 1830, more than 10 years before the women's colleges. Engels worried that it was a self-help ethos that would encourage working class men and not accept status quo. These were people who had 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 years' experience of education.
