I would say that it's always been difficult. Even during the cold war, there were debates whether america was going to maintain its commitment tenado,. And so there was a big debate about this during the early 19 fifties when the united states first deployed troops on a permanent basis to europe. There were debates again during the vianam era, when leading senators were lling for bringing home half, if not more, of the american contingent in europe. So th there's always been a bit of uncertainty in the american commitment to far away nations. Part because that commitment sometimes seems so unnatural and so unique. Im i'm not denying that there's more uncertainty
