The threats to the present liberal order are not symmetrical. The republican party in this country has rejected the rules of the liberal democratic game explicitly. Unless you actually engaged in a reform of the public sector that would increase its professionalism and capacity, it's going to be hard to add another really big programme on top of the ones we have. Nothing that's happening on the progressive side, i think, comes close to meing that big threat.
