Italian actions in Ethiopia caused political rifts and the remilitarization of the Rhineland. By 1941 there were just 3,000 Italian farms in all of Ethiopia. The hope for economic benefits of taking Ethiopia would not really bear fruit as the war would disrupt economic activity starting in 1939. For the Ethiopians the Italian occupation would be violent and brutal. It is estimated that more than 300,000 Ethiopians were killed during the war,. An occupation that would continue until the Italian occupiers were forcefully removed in 1941.
