The Purgative Stage
The purgative is kind of purging, turning us away from our earthly attachments away from sin. Now let's look at illuminative way or the proficient way. In a sense, it's interesting because the purgative way sounds like it'd be more passive. But in a way, it's actually kind of the opposite. So instead of us removing things, it's now things being removed from us. This is where you get deprivation, deprivations, there's a sorts of like, desolation. And I think the Dark Knight is actually a later, that's what John the Cross talks about: The dark knight of the soul and this isn't something with depression
