Dubois' Essay on the Importance of Knowledge

Dubois argues that aristocracies are bound to be sub standard in comparison to democracies. This is not because of corruption among elites, as many would suspect but because the best and most effective aristocracy suffered from lack of knowledge. Duboys does not stop to tell us how we should relate this position to his earlier thoughts on the cultivation of an educated african American elite. It may take a place alongside works like john stuart mill's the subjection of women as a todefoce of feminist thought by a prominent male philosopher.
