How Does a Child Develop Abstract Thinking?

At four and a half his cognition wasn't really there but he's already starting to like pay attention and emulate certain things. He is just like you know if you if we see a policeman he has a little uniform that he wants to wear so he's already recognizing there is something more. Research shows that prior to about the age of it starts around 4 and progresses and gets deeper and deeper till seven and beyond. Once a child begins abstract thinking they'll say well I can see white but it might be another color on the other side.
