I was very impressed by a group of teenagers one of the things we did in our project which was funded I should say by the welcome trust. We went into some schools in London and gave teenagers chance to make short video essays about school brainwashes. They sort of knew instance and said no our school's not brainwashing us that's not the right term it's everyone struggling a bit the school are doing their best. So they ended up with a sort of as it were complicating their own what any starting point of some of them which wasSchool brainwashes you doesn't it so I think often in any conversation as one starts to tease out what's going on how far are we

Daniel Pick, a Psychoanalyst, Historian, and Professor Emeritus of History at Birkbeck College, University of London, joins Subhadra Das, broadcaster, academic and writer, with a keen interest in the history of eugenics, to delve into the murky history and psychology of brainwashing and to discuss Pick's latest book, 'Brainwashed: A New History of Thought Control'.
