Is There a Difference Between Models of Language and Understanding the Meaning of Words?

As a mathematician, i'm dust interested in this structure. What is it? And i like to think of language is kind of like a guiding example. I really personally enjoy mathematics that is motivated by a sort of real world physical observations. That soni think ou no languages, is a good example of am this structure that i think deserves more investigation.
