Python has gained massively in popularity and usage despite all these obstacles. A lot of the people who are now just trying to get on with using Python for their day job, probably when we were starting the process of moving away from setup tools, they didn't even exist. There's always going to be more interesting and really difficult problems to solve. I'm pretty optimistic that we can satisfy people's needs.
